Benefits of Trees

There are over 60,000 types of trees in the world! The most common type of tree in the Midwest is the oak tree and the oldest tree in history was 4,845 years old. Trees are not only fascinating but they also are helpful! Check out the effects trees have on our wellness below.

  1. Trees clean the air- Trees use CO2 during photosynthesis, the process plants use to form energy. Trees also trap other harmful gases into their leaves and bark leaving the environment a cleaner place to live!
  2. Trees provide oxygen- Not only do trees help filter pollutants from the air, they also add oxygen back into the air! Humans need oxygen to breathe and just one acre of trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 humans for an entire year!
  3. Trees cool streets and cities- The shade provided by trees can cool the area around them by up to 10°F! This can help keep our parks and yards a safe place to play during hot summers. It even helps save energy
